As part of its Cape Flats Aquifer groundwater development, the City proposes to renew the water use licence at the national Department of Water and Sanitation.
The City was issued an authorisation (licence number: 01/G40A/AE/7272) for abstraction of groundwater and the injection of high quality advanced treated effluent in December 2017. This authorisation is due to expire in December 2022.
The new water use licence application will be for the abstraction of groundwater volumes up to 28 million m3/a from the Cape Flats Aquifer and the injection of high quality advanced treated effluent volumes up to 23.5 million m3/a into the Cape Flats Aquifer for municipal bulk supply for domestic, urban, commercial, and industrial use.
Location
The proposed activity will take place in areas close to the planned Municipal wellfields (Strandfontein West, Hanover Park, Philippi, Strandfontein North, Strandfontein East, Mitchells Plain, Swartklip, Philippi Central and Philippi North).
