Dear Residents of Bergvliet and members of the BMRA,
I am a master’s student at the University of Cape Town conducting research into community perceptions and expectations around waste picker integration. I invite you to take part in this research project, specifically the residents of Bergvliet. One specific area is being studied in order to gain in-depth insight into a chosen location.
At this phase in the research, I would like to discuss over video call (less covid risk) with a few community members as to what they would like to contribute to the study before questionnaires are constructed. Separate questionnaires are being constructed for homeowners and for street waste pickers, that work in the area. Both parties will contribute to questionnaires being constructed.
Some discussions have already been had with some of the waste pickers in the area and there is a lot of positive feedback about community perceptions and relationships in Bergvliet.
I believe that your contribution to the study will be valuable to the public in finding effective ways forward for waste picker integration. Your individual identity in the study is completely anonymous with your contributions made to the study.
This study has been approved by the Faculty of Science Ethical Review Committee. If you would like to ask any questions about the study, please contact me at sallyfraserza@gmail.com.
