Dear Member

Season’s greetings – I hope 2022 has been a good year for you.

The new BMRA executive committee for 2023 is as follows:

Keith Barton              Chairman
Mark Schafer            Vice-chairman
Gail Lawson              Treasurer
Jo MacRobert           Secretary
Andrew Buhagiar
Byrall Smith
Evan Brighton
Jo Aaron
Ryder Key

Unfortunately, we have lost two members from last year’s committee, Nico Holtzhausen who has moved out of Bergvliet, and Lyanne Naiker who does not wish to stand for re-election. We thank them both for their service to the Association. We welcome Rhyder Key as a new member of the committee.

Mark Schafer has stepped aside after serving as chairman for the last 12 years, but will continue to provide his valuable input in his new role as vice-chairman. Thank you to Mark for your long service as chairman.

During 2023 we plan to form a number of subcommittees that will oversee issues such as land use, planning, membership communications and others yet to be decided. We hope that this will more efficiently utilize the skills we have available within the executive committee.

In Cape Town we are fortunate to have a municipality that is functional. The City is well staffed with professional people who run departments with competent staff. As you will be aware, this is not the case in many other municipalities in South Africa. However, we know that even in Cape Town things never run without a hitch. Often the City is unaware of service and maintenance issues. There is an online site for lodging service requests, known as a C3 service request, which can be accessed at https://www.capetown.gov.za/servicerequests . I would urge you to use this online facility to help us to maintain the standard of our neighbourhood. You may, of course, contact BMRA about any service delivery issues, but the more individual C3 requests, the more likely it is that the City will act.

And last, a note about membership subscriptions. The Association is a voluntary, non-profit, civic organization, but we do incur running costs. These include costs for maintaining our website https://www.bmra.co.za, (which I urge you to visit as it contains useful information), fees for professional submission of objections related to land use and building deviations, a part-time administrator who handles our membership, post box rental for communications from the City and other sundry costs. We have kept our annual subscriptions the same for this year at R120.00 per household per year. We believe that this is an affordable level, and covers our present operating costs. However, only half the member households on our files have paid their 2022/23 subscriptions. Thank you to those who have paid, and I urge those who haven’t please to submit payment.

The BMRA financial year runs from 1 September to 31 August. We are currently in the 2022/2023 year. If you haven’t yet paid, please make payment by EFT to:

First National Bank
Branch Code: 201 109 (Plumstead)
Current Account:  621 304 88217
(Please use your surname and street address as reference)

You can also deposit cash in an envelope at the BMRA safe box in the foyer at Meadowridge Library. Please ensure that your name and address are included.

For any queries, please email membership@bmra.co.za

The committee wishes you a peaceful holiday period and all the best for 2023.

Kind regards

Keith Barton

(Chairman)
